WELCOME TO UNDER 5

Image

Welcome to February’s edition of Under 5 magazine! Spring is near and there’s finally a light at the end of a long, wintery tunnel.

In this month’s magazine, we’re looking ahead to some exciting Alliance events – such as our online training morning in March, CPD for You, and our upcoming Alliance Connect Roadshow,

Celebrating SEND: a world without limits, in both March and October! And, in preparation for the Alliance’s annual conference in June, we make a call out for nominations for the Belle Tutaev Lifetime Achievement Award 2025.

You can also learn all about sensory play, including the benefits and ways to explore it in your setting successfully, how to integrate a discovery ethos with inspiration from Charles Darwin, and, over in Family Corner, how families can benefit from practising yoga together.

Meanwhile, in Inspiration Corner, the Alliance’s Melanie Pilcher breaks down the positives and negatives of traditional fairy tales, how to adapt them to the modern world, and how they can benefit learning. Over in our Baby and Toddler Groups section, the Alliance’s Alison Heseltine gives tips on how to make the most of music and song-time in your group.

January has been a somewhat blustery and gloomy month, as it often is, but the sun is starting to shine and, soon, the days will be getting longer again – hopefully, February will be a bit drier and sunnier to help us welcome in Spring!

Take care,

Jess Gibson, editor
