Welcome to the June issue of Under 5 – and British summertime!
We’re now halfway through the year already, and the summer is looking busy with national events like the recently-announced General Election and Euro 2024 coming up – not to mention the Alliance’s Minds Still Matter conference and the launch of EYA Central!

In Inspiration Corner, we celebrate International Day of Play and the Alliance’s National Week of Play by exploring the ways play benefits little ones and how it fits into the EYFS. Over in our baby and toddler groups section, we share ways to provide healthy snacks for both children and families.
June’s Book Nook dives into the Windrush generation, exploring different experiences of people’s journey to and arrival in Britain in an age-appropriate way. We also look at different ways of ensuring your setting is inclusive for children with visual impairment.
The Law-Call team raises the tricky issue of withdrawing an employment offer – and legal considerations that come alongside it; the team at collaborative early childhood platform Famly explore the issue of recruitment and retention within the early years sector; and Dr Gill Harris, consultant paediatric clinical psychologist and panel member for children’s non-profit the Infant and Toddler Forum, shares her expert advice on understanding food avoidance with children under five.
With lots to get stuck into, we hope you enjoy June’s issue! Fingers crossed the sun will pop out for a bit this month.
Take care,
