An overview of the support that the Alliance can offer mobile baby and toddler groups

Image

If you run a ‘mobile’ baby and toddler group for under-fours, you might be wondering if you need insurance and, if so, what type of insurance.

Well, the Alliance can help! Our insurance offer can help by providing cover for your group, your equipment and your money in case of accidents, incidents and theft. We also understand that many groups are run voluntarily and on a not-for-profit basis, which means that navigating your way through the world of insurance might not be a priority or something you are familiar with.

Across, we summarise some important information about what insurance may suit your ‘mobile’ baby and toddler group.

Being mobile

Firstly, let’s clear up what we mean by ‘mobile’ baby and toddler sessions. If the children that attend are accompanied by an adult and are under four years old, then you’re in the right place. If you attend several different venues transporting your equipment between them to run your group, then this insurance may help.

If you run a baby and toddler group at just the one venue, a slightly different cover could suit your needs better. You can find out more at: bit.ly/BT-group-insurance.

The key features of this insurance are:

  • Employer’s liability – Up to £10 million to cover you if a paid employee or voluntary helper is injured while running these sessions.

  • Public liability – This covers you for many liability scenarios up to £5 million. For example, a child may be injured during one of your sessions and a parent/carer may hold you responsible. Your public liability cover could provide you with legal and/or financial support.

  • Employee/volunteer – if an employee or volunteer has an accident at work that results in death or permanent disability, there’s personal accident cover up to £20,000.

  • Cover for your equipment up to £20,000: For example, if something happened at a venue you use such as a break-in or a fire and your equipment was damaged or lost, this cover may replace it for you.

  • Cover for your group’s money – Up to £250,000 in crossed cheques and £750 in cash.

  • Cover for your personal possessions against theft and damage during sessions – up to £300.

  • Cover for your helpers/staff money during sessions – up to £150.

  • Business interruption (if required) up to £100,000 – This may help protect your income if you run your group as a business and are no longer able to operate because of an incident, accident or theft.

Things to consider:

  • This cover is for sessions that take place within nurseries, schools, church halls, community centres and children’s hospitals. Please contact us if you hold sessions elsewhere.

  • This cover is only suitable for groups that attend a maximum of 10 venues.

  • You can hold multiple sessions at multiple venues at the same time, if you don’t exceed the maximum 10 venues mentioned above.

  • You can have multiple team leaders hosting the sessions at any given time.

It’s your responsibility to ensure that each venue has its own insurance and risk assessments in place and up to date.

Your equipment is covered on an ‘all risks’ basis anywhere in Great Britain, The Channel Islands, Isle of Man and Northern Ireland. This means that there's cover for lost, damaged or stolen equipment both at your venues and anywhere else in the places listed. However, this also depends on the terms and limits of your policy.

  • Ensure minimum standards of security where your equipment is stored overnight. If your equipment is stolen from an unattended vehicle, you aren’t covered unless it was stored out of sight, in a locked boot.

  • You may have to pay an excess if you make a claim. Details can be found in your policy schedule.

  • While transporting your equipment between venues, you’re covered for up to a maximum of £5,000. However, the cover is limited to the amount you value the equipment at when you buy or renew your policy.
