Welcome to this wet-and-windy November/December issue of Under 5!
Temperatures have finally dropped across the UK, ready to usher in the winter months and the close of another year. But, as we approach the end of 2023, difficulties both at home and abroad beckon at our doorsteps.
Children are particularly sensitive to unspoken changes in their emotional environment so, in the final Under 5 issue of the year, we’ve set our sights on community support in designated ‘warm spaces’, helping children to regulate their emotions, and the Alliance’s age-related guidance for under-fives’ emotion coaching.
Meanwhile, Activity Corner weaves the twinkling wonder of Diwali into some educational fun; the team at Law-Call discusses the management of short-term absences, while also providing updates on protocols around holiday pay in light of a recent ruling on the matter; and RSA Insurance’s Annette Pocock answers your all-important questions about underinsurance.
Times may be tough, but I hope you take ten minutes to grab a cuppa and sit down with this issue of Under 5 for some gentle joy, support and advice.
Wrap up warm and take care,
Jess Gibson
