Hello and happy September! Welcome to the sustainability issue.
A new academic year has arrived on the heels of a new government, with lots of changes and challenges in sight. To mark this, we’ve decided to base this month’s issue on making some of your own changes to embed sustainability in your setting and your practice.
So, sticking with September’s sustainability theme, we learn about World Clean Up Day over in Inspiration Corner, talk to the DfE’s Climate Ambassadors programme to find out how it can help early years settings aim for sustainability, and share an array of books related to climate change, the environment, sustainability and activism in Book Nook. Over in Family Corner, we suggest ways to increase little ones’ knowledge of and curiosity for water and water conservation.
We also feature a sneak preview of the Alliance’s upcoming Connect Roadshow in Bradford and some key details about tax codes in our payroll piece. Meanwhile, this month’s Law-Call looks at the legal considerations of volunteers and parent helpers, followed by a highlight of some of the different Law-Call benefits for Alliance members.
Finally, the Ickle Pickles Children’s Charity join us to share the ways that support from other parents of premature babies can be essential and how the charity helps to facilitate this.
As we celebrate the new academic year, please spare some thoughts for all the children in Gaza, Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo who will not be starting a new academic year but will instead be fighting to survive – and remember that every child has a right to education.
