The team at Busy Bees in Dorking are celebrating after receiving an ‘Outstanding’ rating in their latest Ofsted inspection. The inspector commented that the children are “very happy and secure and build excellent relationships with staff” and “show excellent skills beyond their years”. They also praised the team’s partnerships with parents and enthusiasm in celebrating children’s successes.
Children at Wem Playmates Nursery in Shropshire enjoyed celebrating World Bee Day on 20 May. They learned about the lifecycle of the bee, tried tasting local honey, made wild flower bombs, which help grow bee-friendly flowers. They also had a chance to look at real honeycomb.
Children at Buttercups Nursery in Chalfont Park were delighted to see live chicks hatch as part of their exploration of life cycles. After watching the eggs intently for a few days and checking for any cracks, the team were thrilled when the tiny chicks finally emerged. Manager Sam said: “This experience has been amazing for the children. As well as learning about life cycles, growth and development the programme has encouraged social interaction and promotion nurturing skills.”
Children at Arbury Pre-school in Cambridge have been learning about Eid, which took place in May. Manager Sarah said: “We learned about the story of Eid and talked about the ways different people celebrate and asked the children to share their own experiences. We made Eid cards and henna pictures and talked about the patterns and shapes they could see and the meaning of the symbols.”
Children at Godmanchester Pre-school in Huntingdon raised £1,465 for a new outdoor play area with a sponsored Bunny Bounce. A course was drawn on the floor outside with large bunny footprints. The children could then hop, jump, bounce or walk along the course as many times as they could in two minutes. Each child received a certificate and a chocolate egg as a reward for their hard work. The team asked the children how they’d like the money raised to be spent with some asking for new mini trampoline and a music area.
The team at Acorn Early Years in Stony Stratford and Milton Keynes are celebrating after receiving ‘Good’ and ‘Outstanding’ ratings in their first Ofsted reports. The inspectors noted that the settings provide “excellent first-hand experiences” to help children learn about their local community and make “impressive progress” in their communication and language skills.
