Welcome to Under 5

Happy New Year and welcome to 2025’s first issue of Under 5 magazine!

After what has probably been a very busy couple of months for many, we’re looking forward to the start of a brand-new year and all that it has to offer – including lots of exciting events and opportunities.

We share details about the Alliance’s upcoming CPD for You event in March, which focuses on business and leadership skills, as well as information about the revised Level 5 Early Years Senior Practitioner training for those looking to enhance their growing skills.

With International Day of Education on 24 January 2025, we take a look at the importance of education around the world, how it differs from place to place, and how it can help influence your practice. We follow this up in this month’s Book Nook, sharing books about starting at an early years setting and school, as well as books that show education in other countries.

Following on from a 2024 study about the use of screens before bedtime for little ones, we review the findings and any suggested next steps. Meanwhile, the Ickle Pickles Children’s Charity shares five things that families of premature babies wish they knew before their experiences, as well as ways that you can become a NeoHero to support further.

Finally, to help you keep up to speed with the raft of government policy changes and sector news, we’ve summarised all recent announcements for you, including how the Alliance has been involved in or influenced these changes.

Take care,

Jess Gibson, editor
