Welcome to Under 5

Hello and welcome to the September issue of Under 5.

I’m excited to welcome you all to my first issue as Editor of the magazine! As we head into autumn, we hear all about Jellybabies Nursery & Pre-School’s joint graduation celebration and sports day, Cullompton Pre-School’s visit from Lib Dem MP Richard Foord about funding and finances, summer parachute fun at Leeds-based baby and toddler group Namastay and Play, and more.

We venture into the topic of rocks in Activity Corner, suggesting a wealth of ways to stimulate the curiosity and imagination of children; explore the value of volunteers at baby and toddler groups, as well as any training or safeguarding considerations; and, over in Family Corner, we look at the benefits of learning through play and how restrictions can be unwittingly placed on neurodivergent children’s play.

For settings concerned about how they’re going to weather the cost-of-living crisis, our business team has put together key financial tips and considerations, as well as some handy information about Subject Access Requests from Law-Call. Meanwhile, check out our competition for a chance to win an outdoor storytelling bundle worth £200 from Eduzone!

I hope you enjoy this issue as much as I’ve enjoyed putting it together. If you’d like to share any good news or stories from your setting for My Under 5, or to ask any questions, you can reach us on editor.u5@eyalliance.org.uk.
