Welcome to Under 5

Happy October to all of our Under 5 family.

If you’re surprised to find yourself in October already, you’re not alone! Spooky season is in full swing with Halloween on the horizon, while September’s unexpected heatwave has dulled into a slew of rainy days and muddy puddles.

In this issue of Under 5, the Ickle Pickles Children’s Charity talks about World Prematurity Month and how you can show your support, sharing an inspirational story. We also look at early years nutrition – where we introduce the Alliance’s Nutrition Support Programme – and how to encourage enthusiasm in little eaters, offering up advice from nutritionist Lucy Shipton about how to manage challenging mealtimes a positive way over in Family Corner.

Keeping you up to date with the latest policy changes, we outline key updates to the government’s Prevent strategy and answer questions about Ofsted myths, inspections and expectations. There’s also an excellent high-quality training opportunity highlighted for aspiring SENCos with the Best Practice Network, as well as the launch of the Early Years Alliance’s flexible CPD Spotlight Collections.

And, if that’s not enough, we’ve got our regular Law-Call feature to help setting managers with right to work checks, alongside an autumn-themed Activity Corner.

Once again, I really hope you enjoy this issue of Under 5 and find the information enclosed helpful. Don’t forget that we’re always looking for your good news, stories, questions or comments to share in My Under 5, so send them to editor.u5@eyalliance.org.uk to be featured.

Enjoy spooky season!
